Welcome everyone to Sussex Practical Astronomers (formally the Adur Astronomical Society)
Our monthly lecture evenings at the Southwick Community Centre and our monthly Practical Astronomy meetings at Clayton Village Hall are now booked f0r 2024, with external speakers for the former and practical astronomy clinics and astrophotography lectures for the latter. Dates for these meetings are now in the diary on this site and we have some excellent external speakers lined up for our lecture meetings at Southwick. Have a look at the current list of lectures booked for the coming months under the EVENTS tab.
As a quick reminder, for the 2023/24 year, we are offering a 50% discount in the annual subscription to both existing and new members. This is normally £20, but is available for £10.
Our next meeting in the diary is our lecture meeting at Southwick Community Centre. Please note that this meeting takes place on Tuesday 7th May, not our usual Monday. This is due to the Spring Bank Holiday on Monday 6th. Our speakers are Mr William Joyce, whose talk is entitled ‘ The Role of Scientific Exploration of the Moon ‘ and Mr Bob Turner, who will be talking about ‘How a Star becomes a Supernova’.

The next Practical Astronomy Group meeting at Clayton Village Hall takes place on Wednesday 22nd May. Agenda to follow.
We are an astronomical society of around 40 members covering wide areas of Sussex, including Brighton to Worthing on the coast and many of the towns and villages inland.
Our membership ranges from complete beginners to experienced astronomers and everything we do is based on the premise that astronomy can and should be enjoyed by everyone. We have two monthly meetings.
One is held at the Southwick Community Centre. This is usually lecture based and frequently with external speakers, covering a wide selection of astronomical subjects to suit all interests.
The other meeting covers practical astronomy and is held at the Clayton Recreation Ground in Hassocks. So, if you are thinking of buying a telescope, already have one and want to learn more, want to have a look through a telescope or binoculars or take images of the night sky then come along and meet the members. Help and advice is always on hand.
Both beginners and the experienced individuals are welcome to our Society and whether you are interested in visual astronomy, astrophotography, or just learning more about astronomy in general, we are sure that you will find something to interest you.
